How is Midsummer celebrated in Sweden?

In Sweden, Midsummer is a particularly special occasion and celebrated as a national holiday. During this time, many Swedes travel to the countryside to enjoy the celebration outdoors and in the nature with loved ones. Some popular traditions for Swedish Midsummer include making flower crowns called ‘Midsommarkrans’ and dancing around a decorated pole called the Maypole.

Celebrating Midsummer’s Eve

One of the most important parts of Midsummer in Scandinavia is the dinner on Midsummer’s Eve. In Sweden, foods such as herring, salmon and potatoes are traditionally served, with strawberries and cream for dessert. It is also typical to serve distilled spirits called ‘snaps’ which are enjoyed while singing traditional Swedish songs.

Here with us, you can be sure to find everything you need for a beautifully set table for your Midsummer’s Eve dinner, from crockery and cultery to stylish snaps glasses.

Midsummer decorations for festive celebrations

Create a truly traditional midsummer feeling by adding natural elements to your table setting and home. Fill elegant vases with wildflowers as a beautiful centrepiece on the dinner table or choose tableware and decorations with floral or botanical designs. Finish off the table setting by adding rustic candleholders to create a cosy and festive mood.
