The History of Villeroy & Boch
The famous porcelain company Villeroy & Boch has a history dating back to 1748, when Francois Boch launched a pottery together with his three sons in the French Lorraine. A few years later, Nicolas Villeroy launched a similar activity in Germany. The two businessmen inevitably become competitors but in 1836 they decided to merge instead, hence the company Villeroy & Boch was born. This way they were able to combine both companies' creativity, entrepreneurship and production capacity, which proved to be a highly successful move.
