The pattern was designed by Maija Isola back in 1964 after the founder of Marimekko, Armi Ratia, proclaimed a ban on flowers in Marimekko prints. But Unikko was so fresh and unique that it convinced Armi Ratia to take it in production. And as we all know, it became a success!
