About Bjørn Wiinblad
The Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad is primarily known for his imaginative and fanciful patterns, which depict liveliness and rich colours. When he died in 2006, he left an extensive design heritage behind; a legacy that has now been bought to life through porcelain, textiles and furnishings.Bjørn Wiinblad originally trained as a typographer but he quickly knew that artistry was where his real passions layed. Inspired by the tales, ‘Arabian nights’, he began to draw various ceramic objects and designs from the extravagant stories. During his long career, he created everything from porcelain and set designs to hotel interiors. His vivid designs were anything but representative of the typical Danish designs of the time.
Whilst functionality was popular in Denmark, Bjørn Wiinblad explored a whole new direction using strong colours, frills and romantic designs. Perhaps this is the reason why Bjørn Wiinblad was not recognised in Denmark for his artistry, but he cared not what others thought of him. What mattered to Bjørn Wiinblad was to find an outlet for his creativity and to spread as much joy as possible.
