Arne Jacobsen originally learned to become a bricklayer, but decided later that he wanted to become an architect. Upon his completion of his degree at the School of Architecture in Copenhagen in 1927, Jacobsen started working at an architecture firm. A few years later, he opened his own firm where many of Denmark’s most popular designers and architects started their career, including Hans J. Wegner, Peter Karpf, Jørgen Møller and Jørgen Gammelgaard.

Arne Jacobsen was a pioneer within Danish design, and is said to be one of the first within functionalism. He designed public buildings, private homes, fonts, furniture, lamps, clocks and other interior. He very often designed both the exterior and interior or his projects. One of his most known works is the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, where Arne Jacobsen designed every detail, down to the door handles and cutlery in the restaurant. It was there Jacobsen designed the renowned Ägget, Droppen and Svanen chairs.

Chairs are one of the things Arne Jacobsen is most known for. In the 1950s, he designed the famous Myran and Sjuan chairs, in collaboration with the furniture brand, Fritz Hansen.
